Eugene Covey April 1, 1988

Eugene Covey interviewed 1 April 1988.

Eugene Covery says that he lived with his grand father and grand mother for 2 or 3 years and went to Chubbuck School those two or three years. He and his mom then moved to Fremont and soon back to Kent City. Grandpa was a butcher and worked in Fremont and later at Saur’s Store In Kent City.

There was a gooseberry farm on the north end of Kent City' on the west side. The farm was the whole north end where Clover Street is currently. These berries were for W. R. Roach. Gooseberries were used for making pies.

E. J. Soles old farm is still there. The Little house is a rent house.

Eugene Covey worked at Saur’s Store bagging groceries while he was in High School. Some of his fondest memories are of Mrs. A. H. Saur.

Eugene remembers when he was a kid both sides of Callenn Avenue were outlined with logs about 2 high.

The 1907 Atlas states that Section 31 a M.T. Johnson settled on in 1841.

The residence of Mike Gilliam’s was straight west of the Baptist Church kinda where 2 roads meet. The home now has a porch with a little brick on it.

Eugene’s grandmother Dennis was a Hudson. She was one of 12 kids with 3 sets of twins in the family.

English’s lived at the end of Calleen Road. Dorothy English married a Johnson who was about Eugene’s age.
